Top Reads of 2024

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I wrote the last “Top Reads” post. I guess that’s because I’m getting old. Old-er. Yes, that’s better. Anyway, to give you a run-down of my reading in 2024, here are the stats:

Out of 108 books began in 2024, 4 remain unfinished. 2 because I didn’t enjoy them. 1 because it was a nonfiction history book that I will continue to listen to whenever I’m in the mood, and the last one remains in progress and will be completed soon.

I read a LOT of really good books, but only 1 of them twice: The Story of With by Allen Arnold, an allegory/attitude changing commentary on the nature of the creative process. If you’re a Christian creative of any sort, I highly recommend this book.

I read 28 ebooks and 77 audiobooks. Not a single paper copy. Several of the ebooks were in anthologies. Others were for various contests or Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs).

Okay. Drum roll…

I read lots of genres but lean toward fantasy. 5 of my best books fit that category. I also loved the historical romances, An Uncertain Road and The Librarian Spy, and the romantic comedies, Love in Tandem and Loyally, Luke. Creed is an adventure romantic suspense and Meet Me at the Starlight is a split time family saga/romance.

There are so many other note-worthy books from the past year, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I’m telling you that it was a VERY difficult line to draw.

The best collection was Starry Nights (You can find most of the individual books on Amazon) which introduced me to some new-to-me authors such as Angela Ruth Strong. I also read Karin Beery, Liz Tolsma, Creston Mapes, Megan Besing, Rachel Fordham, Dana R. Lynn, Lisa Jordan, Amanda Cox, Sara Blackard, Tara Grace Erickson, and Tabitha Bouldin among others for the first time this year and thoroughly enjoyed their stories.

So tell me, what was/were your favorite read(s) of 2024? Reply with a comment so I can add a few more good books to my 2025 TBR.
