Author Interview: Angela Ruth Strong

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to introduce today’s author. If you haven’t read any of her books, you’re in for a treat. If you have, you already know what I’m talking about. I was introduced to this talented lady through Two Dogs Anthologies. She wrote a novel that appeared in A Summer to Remember, the same anthology my debut novel, Loving the Rodeo Queen, was in.

Her stories, while they deal with deep topics, are infused with humor and vitality. And hope! Often, they have children who attempt to steal the show from the main characters, but always they are entertaining and filled with truth.

Here’s Angela’s bio:

Angela Ruth Strong survived breast cancer, works as a flight attendant, and uses her own crazy life experiences as inspiration for the stories she writes. Her books have earned TOP PICK in Romantic Times, been nominated for a Christy Award, and become Amazon bestsellers. She and her husband also played extras when her novel Finding Love in Big Sky was adapted for film. To help aspiring authors, Angela started IDAhope Writers where she lives in Idaho.

Let’s get to the questions.

I just finished writing an upcoming flight attendant novel based on my career as a flight attendant. Some of it may seem a little ridiculous, but I assure you, most of it has happened to me or someone I know. Welcome to my crazy life.

I’ve come to believe that my writing is never as good or as bad as I think it is at any given time, but if it ever means something to anyone else, that makes it pretty special. So, to become an author, stay as humble as you are passionate. Be open to feedback from others as a way of improving the gift you have to offer the world.

Research for a flight attendant novel is one of the best parts of my job! I’ve visited some amazing places that are going into this book from hiking the Manitou Incline in Colorado Springs to dancing Zumba at a resort on the cliffs overlooking the ocean in San Louis Obispo. But I think the most unexpected addition to this story came when I was stuck at the Denver airport.

I was writing in the crew lounge, when a writer friend (who always messages for moral support when she flies) asked, “What’s a crew lounge?” I explained how at each hub, there’s a room for pilots and flight attendants that can be found with directions from our airline website. Access includes hidden doors and secret codes. After I explained this to her, she responded, “That sounds fun–like an escape room.” So, I added a hunt for the Denver crew lounge to my story.
