Dana and I have lots in common – especially the cats and chocolate! That makes me smile. Let’s jump in and find out more about Dana and her writing.

I was inspired to write my latest book by a conversation I had with a friend several years ago while riding on a train to a writing conference. We were brainstorming, and as often happens when you are hungry and tired, our ideas kept getting stranger and wilder the longer we talked. One idea, however, stuck with me. What if an Amish girl fled her home in the middle of the night to avoid a looming marriage proposal, but was forced to return because a killer was after her? It may sound ridiculous, that was the spark that grew into Miriam Troyer’s backstory in HUNTING THE AMISH WITNESS, book 20 in my Amish Country Justice series.

Years ago, an editor told me that when I become stuck in one scene, rather than staring at a blank page, I should move on and write a different scene. I took that advice to heart. In every book I write, I tend to write three or four chapters, then I skip to the end and work backwards for a few chapters. I go back and forth, connecting the threads. Often, this leads to new characters emerging as a threat, or new red herrings. Even when I have the book plotted out, I tend to work in this manner.

There are many rewarding aspects of my writing career. The one I didn’t expect, however, is the many great relationships I have forged with other authors, industry professionals, and readers. Some of my readers have become dear friends. And for an introvert like me, the joy of having a group of like-minded people who think like me is amazing.
